Characterisation of High Temperature Oxidation Phenomena during AISI 430 Stainless Steel Manufacturing under a Controlled H2 Atmosphere for Bright Annealing

Localised-in-the-edge oxidation of four AISI 430 alloys was investigated after an industrial bright annealing process. The oxidised surface each specimen characterised by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman-spectroscopy and SEM. results showed that the selective Cr Mn took place at coil edges 430. This led to formation oxide scale based on Cr2O3 MnCr2O4. On other hand, Cr(OH)3 MnOOH in outer part related effect H2–N2 environment furnace. concluded composition alloy determined products. However, time minor this mechanism, which slightly contributed increase cation diffusion from steel oxide. Finally, obtained indicate colouration displayed studied material varies according chemical time.
